Budget Strings for the Music Producer

Live strings recorded remotely for your project

If you want live strings recorded for your latest song, composition, CD, film score, TV ad or game but just can’t afford the artist and studio fees you’ve come to the right place.  In our fully sound-treated home studio we can arrange, record and multi-track strings to meet your needs.  So, anything from an intimate cello solo to a full string section.  Indie bands and artists are our specialty.  We also work with anyone who wants their special recording enhanced by live strings.

We call this video “Five Shades of Careless Whisper”.  Its a humorous 3.5-minute glimpse at how we work.

There’s nothing like live, especially if you need a string sound which is dynamic, emotive, soulful or energetic.  If you’re inspired to enquire about our services don’t hesitate to give us a call or email.

How much do you charge?

We charge by the hour for our services – $99AUD per hour for all arranging, playing, recording and mixing (price includes GST for Australian clients.)  Violin, viola and cello.  As you can see from our promo we can also create full backings using the latest sound modules like Steven Slate Drums, Ample Bass and First Call Horns.

Once we’ve got a clear idea of what you want from us we’ll give you a quote and work from there.  We love working with great musicians from around the world and look forward to being a part of your creative process.

Why live strings?

And that’s a great question. Sometimes for a sustained string pad sound, synthesised or sampled strings can be just as good (or dare I say, even better!) than a live string section to attain your desired sound. However, there are so many ways in which the sound of a live violinist or cellist or a string section is absolutely not replicable. Feel free to ask our opinion on whether or not live strings are a worthwhile spend for your project. We’re always happy to help.

In the meantime, get inspired listening to one of the many super cool string lines from the groovy 70s in Boney M’s Sunny (the big string lines start around 2:30)

Brenton and Jacqui, “String Fever”, are consummate professionals. They are also a joy to work with. I recently hired them to play melody lines and full string sections on four tracks. The tracks were delivered quickly, performed accurately and expressively, and recorded in a way that blended easily with my arrangements. Brenton offered welcome clarifications and musically intelligent suggestions in advance of the recording. They took special care to make sure i was happy with the tracks, and their fee (estimated in advance) was always so reasonable in relation to the quality of their work.

 Where have you played?

We’ve had a wealth of orchestral experience.  Between us we’ve played with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony, Sydney Opera House Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony, West Australia Symphony, Main Event Orchestra, Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra, Phil Hartl Session strings and more.  We can also book a live string section for events within Adelaide, South Australia.

Chart writing

Brenton’s crazy musical medley “Beatles Berserka” was described by legendary drummer and bandleader Doug Tann as “The best arrangement I’ve played of anything, ever!”

Brenton wrote his first string quartet arrangement in the late 80s.  Since then he has expanded his knowledge in all areas of arrangement.  From a cello solo to a 19 piece big band with vocalists, Brenton will make the music work for you.

The live strings (from 1:14) are so wonderful and give it life I never could have in the MIDI world – beautiful playing and thanks again!

The quality of the recording is excellent, as is the interpretation.  It is immensely thrilling to be able to hear what I had in my head coming from real live instruments.
